This existing colonial house in Weston, MA sits on an amazing lot. We were asked to present a design proposal for the Kitchen/Family Room, a possible addition for a Breakfast Room, and explore other ways to increase the level of detail throughout the entire First Floor. Our clients desired a casual yet sophisticated home and felt as if the Kitchen, Family Room, and Screened Porch were an entirely different entity than the rest of the house, which included a Music Room, Living Room, Main Foyer and Library.
Our initial thought when looking at the floor plan was to make the Kitchen with Breakfast Nook the central space on the First Floor between the Family Room and Formal Living Room. We achieved this by opening up the Rear Stair Hall, allowing the stair to become a design element of the Formal Living Room. We also introduced additional openings on the back of the home and created a more formal Terrace with adjacent outdoor cooking and pool area. These new openings at the back of the house flushed the home full of light and made each of the spaces even more inviting.CLOSE
